Street Fighter: A Bigger World Than You May Know

The Street Fighter series is a world filled with all sorts of interesting characters, but some may not realize just how vast that world is. Of course, plenty of fans know about one corner of it: the Final Fight series, where Metro City’s concrete jungle beckons players to face down the gangs that stand in their way.

But as many are discovering with the new Street Fighter V character announcement, the Rival Schools series is very much part of Street Fighter’s world. Amidst the backdrop of Japanese high school life, those games featured 3D “Marvel VS Capcom-esque” fighting game action!

An even lesser-known corner of that world is the Saturday Night Slam Masters series, inviting players to experience the dynamic nature of pro-wrestling as envisioned by Fist of the North Star artist Tetsuo Hara. And while I’m slightly cheating by including them, I like to think the characters of Capcom and Arika’s Street Fighter EX (who basically have their own series now) are somewhere in the same world too, fighting and whatnot.

There’s 1 more character left to be announced for Street Fighter V season pass 5. To me, it’s fine if it turned out to be a pre-existing Street Fighter character (where’s “Sodom”??). But I don’t think there was any reason for Capcom not to announce it with the rest of season pass 5. Unless…they’re working out stuff behind the scenes?

Could it be a character from Street Fighter EX they’re negotiating with Arika for? Maybe a Slam Masters character?? Perhaps even a character from another big fighting game franchise like King of Fighters or Tekken? Or…maybe I’m wrong on the corporate talk and it could somehow be a crazy Darkstalkers cameo?? Who really knows, but it’s fun to speculate. 

The last picture is a mix of characters from various Capcom fighting games, not just Street Fighter...just wanted to include it because characters from Rival Schools and Street Fighter EX are there too!
