Gravity Rush: A Season Ends, & A Game Is Done

By coincidence, my time with the remastered version of Gravity Rush ended just as summer transitioned into fall. After taking around 2 months to play through the game, I can’t help but feel bittersweet. I’m walking away from it toward a new season with other games, but the title screen’s music lingers in my head.
While the gravity gameplay mechanics are truly unique, the protagonist Kat actually ended up being my favorite part of the game. She’s good-natured like protagonists usually are, but I love how she’s not afraid to call out others 😂
As the game makes players privy to her thoughts, I was also surprised at how relatable she was. I mean, what’s not relatable about talking with someone and thinking things you can’t spell out to them? (ex. Kat thinking “I gotta get out of here…” when one conversation is going on for longer than she prefers).
The way she reacted to crazy events in the story wasn’t that different from how a player would feel either. My screenshots don’t do Kat justice!
Gravity Rush was ultimately full of quaint charm and endearing for me. But considering how the original game was a 2012 PS Vita title, it can possibly come off as “too simple” for those more used to playing newer action-adventure games. And my playthrough wasn’t without faults — the camera can sometimes be hard to deal with, and a few mechanics/controls just aren’t explained in-game. The latter doesn’t make the game less playable, but man…finding out about them after I finished the game was a bummer.
Still, I’m all up for some Gravity Rush 2 in the future, which looks bigger and better. And while the chances of a Gravity Rush 3 are nearly zero, I’m glad the series even exists in the first place.
