Some More Fighting Game Things
Based on content originally posted to Instagram from December 6-7, 2021.
Just writing this post to talk about a few fighting game updates in my
life. The first update is that I picked up The King of Fighters XI
recently!
I remember wanting to play it when I was younger, so I’m pleased that it’s my first KOF game. Some dreams do come true I guess 🥺 Out of all the KOFs, this one seems to have the most unique roster + team combinations!
Also, it’s 2021 and I’ve bought myself a fighting game that has NO access to online multiplayer and actually has UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS. Yes, it’s an old game…but I still think this is worth pointing out 😆 KOF XI is very different from the modern fighting game experience, so I’m excited to play and learn more.
The second update is that I picked up a few small things for my fightstick and modded them in. For those who have no idea what this sorta thing entails, you might find this video of me working on it interesting:
Nothing too special — it’s modding at
the most basic level, and I’m not trying to do anything super fancy. Still, even if there are way more impressive & prettier customized fightsticks out there, I'm quite happy with the current look of mine.
The mish-mash of different, non-matching parts makes it feel like some kinda tool from a “scavenged-future” (this is just my imagination running wild because I watched the live-action Cowboy Bebop not that long ago). Also, it has some little touches that make it *feel* more personal.
For anyone thinking that where my buttons are installed looks a little funny: I modded the stick so that I can play it upside down with the joystick on the right, and that affects where the buttons go. Decided to try a battop for the joystick too. Will see how that turns out…if necessary, I can buy something to make the handle longer or use a balltop again.
Final note: all the custom parts on this fightstick were purchased from Arcade Shock. Check out their site if you're a fightstick owner living in California that's interested in modding your stick!
